Like many of you, we’ve collected quite a few mission patches over the years, and we’re always looking for creative ways to display them. Today on SHOPCOM, we’re sharing a few approaches that work well for showcasing your patch collection.
Frames and Boards
The classic option is a display frame or board. Stores like Hobby Lobby, Michaels, or Amazon offer a wide range of choices. Just be sure to select one with room for future patches. Once you’ve chosen a layout you like, a Pro Tip is to mock it up first before attaching anything. Velcro, glue, or tape can all work to attach them to the board, depending on how permanent you want the display to be.
Wearable Displays
Another great option is adding patches to clothing. Lindsay from the Shop team has been building a jean jacket covered in mission patches, perfect for launches and space events. If you’d rather avoid sewing, iron-on patches or Velcro are simple alternatives. For those who prefer stitching, you’ll just need a needle, thread, and some patience. Matching your thread color to the patch edge often yields the cleanest look; Lindsay noted that black thread worked well on several NSF Starship patches. A clear thread or even a thin fishing line can also be effective. Once secured, knot off the thread to finish and repeat for each patch. We also recommend mocking up where you want each patch to go before sewing them on.
We’ve loved seeing the different ways many of you display your patches; every approach is unique. Continue collecting, experimenting, and sharing your displays with us. If you’d like to show off your NSF merch or patch collection, tag us on X at @ShopNSF.
