Description
The Mission is taking us back to the moon and opening a new era in spaceflight. Welcome to the Artemis Era. At NSF, we chose to mark this historic milestone with a fully embroidered collector's patch made proudly in the USA right in the mountains of North Carolina. Check out the story behind the design:
- Mission Motto And Collective Purpose:
The phrase “We Rise Together, Back to the Moon & Beyond” anchors the patch, expressing the shared human effort behind Artemis II. It reflects international cooperation, technological progress, and a renewed commitment to exploration that extends beyond a single mission or generation.
- Earth As Our Origin:
Earth rises behind the crew, representing humanity’s home and the point of departure for exploration. Its placement reinforces perspective, reminding us that every step into deep space is grounded in where we come from and what we carry forward.
- The Artemis II Crew:
The four astronauts stand shoulder to shoulder, unified and forward-facing. Their presence marks the first humans to leave Earth orbit since Apollo 17 in 1972, marking the return of crewed deep-space flight after more than 5 decades.
- The Lunar Surface:
The Moon dominates the lower half of the patch, textured and detailed to convey scale and history. It represents both a destination once reached and a frontier once again within reach, bridging past achievement with future ambition.
- Orion Spacecraft In Lunar Orbit:
The Orion spacecraft arcs across the lunar foreground, symbolizing the vehicle that will carry humanity back into deep space. Its orbital path suggests motion, precision, and continuity, reinforcing Artemis II as a critical step toward sustained crewed missions to the Moon and onward to Mars.
